Discussion:
Where to put VTF, VMT, WAV, and TGA files?

I just downloaded the Mappack 1 for HL2 DM and copied all of the files into
the map folder. Most of the maps run, but a few of them don't seem to have
any textures. Should I be putting the VTF, VMT, and other files (other than
BSP map files) into another folder? BTW, the instructions that come with the
maps and files tell you to copy the files into the folder above the maps
folder (hl2mp), but this did not work for me.

Do you mean this one from gamers hell? 'half-life2_mappack.zip'
The readme reads:
Also included are various graphs [.ain], .vmf's, materials, models,
scripts and some sounds from some maps.
Simply extract the entire .rar file to "Steam \ SteamApps \
<***@Email.com> \ half-life 2 deathmatch \ hl2mp \".

So extract the file to hl2mp, maintaining the directory structure.

Thanks for bringing my attention to these. Be back in a day or 2 ;)

Unfortunately the readme is wrong. Which is true with these type of
things about half the time. People go to all the effort to put a map
pack or just a map together and can't figure out how to correctly
instruct people in using it.

You extracted the files with the folder structure intact, then just copy
them over.

Hmmm. The file was a .rar and I used Unrar (in a DOS window) to extract
them. There was no folder structure. Can anyone tell me what the folder
structure should be?

Get 7Zip http://www.7-zip.org/ and use it to extract the files. Why the
heck are you "unrarring" in a DOS window, how archaic.
